Lots of Rain - Lots of News!

We read over 2700 minutes during Christmas vacation! Wow! To celebrate, we will be having another day dedicated to reading on Thursday, Jan. 21–the last day of the quarter/semester. Your child may wear his/her pajamas, bring blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, ONE stuffed animal, and loads of books. (However, he/she needs to able to carry whatever he/she brings to and from circle without any help. Please plan accordingly.) We also have a special treat coming to munch on while we are reading.

This year Salem added Rosetta Stone, an online language learning site, to our curriculum. Being the first year, we have come across some kinks–we do not have enough bandwidth for a large number of students to use it at one time. Therefore we are offering it as an at home program. Third grade will be beginning the program third quarter. This week we will be introducing it in class so we can be more comfortable showing it to you, our parents, next week. Wish us luck!

Jan. 22–no school–end of quarter/semester–teacher inservice day

We will be having our Salem Information Night at 7:00 on Tuesday, Jan. 26. If you know someone who might be interested in sending his/her children to Salem, this is a great night to come find out more about us. Spread the word! For more info click here.

Wise Guys is sponsoring a Restaurant Week Out as well as showcasing our art elective “Worhol Collection”. You won’t believe how talented our jr. high students are! Or how creative Mrs. Holani and Mrs. Wallace are! Our art program is top notch. Come see the opening and munch on some pizza Jan. 23-28.

Plan to join us for the PTL sponsored Science Night at Salem on Friday, Jan. 29, from 5:00-8:30. Dinner will be served first and then you and your child will be able to participate in age appropriate science experiments together. A reservation flier came home last week.

FYI: Mrs. Cree’s birthday is Thursday. We will be making a special gift, but if your child wants to make a card or bring a flower from your yard, I know she would love it!
