Hebrews 11:1

Faith is being sure of what we HOPE for!

Did you know that in this verse, hope means what we know we will have? Our language has changed the definition of hope to something that we "wish for".

"the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best"

If we used the modern definition of hope, then our verse is something that we are wishing for. But that is not what is being expressed in this verse! We KNOW we have eternal life. We are CERTAIN of it! Life with HIM is what we PINE for.... or HOPE for.

I found a definition of hope in the verb sense:

"to believe, desire, or trust"

This is a better description of our verse for this week! Unlike the girl making a wish and hoping for a result, we can be CERTAIN of God's promises, protection and love.

Faith is being SURE of what we HOPE for!
