THIRD GRADE NEWS-Sept. 2-5
• Each night your child will be bringing home a Home Education Spiral in which his/her home education should be recorded. Most of our home education this year will be time spent reading, however some nights will include math practice, extra class research, etc. At the third grade level I would hope that reading at home has already become a habit. If not, now is a great time to MAKE it a habit!! (Remember: TODAY A READER-—TOMORROW A LEADER!) Please sign the spiral to indicate to me that your child has completed the required time reading that night. If for some reason your child cannot spend the required time reading (Little League, Angel game, etc.), please write me a short note explaining when you plan to make up the time (tomorrow, this weekend, etc.).
• Our classroom newsletter will go home the first day of every week in an email to you. This newsletter, THIRD GRADE NEWS, will let you know what will be happening during the week. You will also be able to access it on our class website at: rumseyblog.blogspot.com. (My hope is that this website is already in your bookmarked or favorites file—or even better, “RSS”ed.)
• The offerings this month will go to Compassion International. Through this mission we have adopted two underprivileged children, one from South America and one from Africa. We have envelopes in the classroom for your child to take for his/her offering. Check our blog calendar for chapel days and locations each week.
• Please have your child bring his/her All God’s People Sing songbook to school ASAP. If you need a replacement book, send $15.00 in an envelope marked “songbook” and I will take care of the rest.
• Check out the Scholastic Lucky Book Order form coming home today. This order has an excellent selection of “just right” books from which to choose, all at a very reasonable price. A Software order will also be included. All orders this year will be online. (If this is a problem for you, please let me know.) To place your order online from home, check out the attached note from Scholastic with our class username and password. I will keep the order open until the morning of Sept. 9. With each order our class earns Scholastic bonus points to improve our own class library! ☺
• For our classroom calendar check the page called “Calendar” from the blog. For Salem’s school calendar check the Salem website or click on “Salem Lutheran School Calendar” on the right side of our blog under “My Links”.
• Please join us for the Opening Services for the 2008-2009 school year. We will celebrate our year together at the 10:45 church service on Sunday, September 14.
• COMPUTERS: I will not be sending home your child’s computer unless it is necessary for him/her to complete a project. My hope is that I will be able to contact you before the computer would come home just to make you aware, however that may not always be possible. If you, for whatever reason, would like your child to bring his/her computer home for a night, please write me a quick note in the home ed. spiral letting me know your wishes. We worked on the laptops every day last week and I am impressed with the “computer etiquette” that I have seen so far. Please know that I am doing everything possible to make our computer integration smooth and safe. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know.
• Mark your calendar for these two important events:
- Pizza lunch—Sept. 8
-Open House--—Come ask everything you ever wanted to know about third grade—Sept. 17 at 6:30
-Sunday, September 28 at 10:45 a.m.-Third graders sing in church. (Please mark your calendar now as attendance counts toward your child’s music grade. We will meet in Mrs. Rumsey’s room at 10:30.)
If you have any questions, please email me at arumsey@salemorange.com
